Russian President Vladimir Putin said he his ready to negotiate with US President-elect Donald Trump over the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is ready to negotiate with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump over the escalating war with Ukraine. While speaking during his annual Q&A session, the Russian President emphasized that discussions could proceed without any preconditions, insisting that any agreement on the war should involve Kyiv’s authorities.
While addressing a U.S. news channel report, he clarified that no discussions have taken place between him and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump in years. He also expressed his willingness to meet Trump and hold discussions regarding the war. Putin reiterated that Russia is ready to negotiate with anyone, including President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Putin debunked claims that Russia is in a weak position, strongly proclaiming that his nation has only grown stronger since the 2022 invasion. He dismissed the option of a brief ceasefire, instead making a case for a lasting peace resolution. He raised the idea of reconsidering a past negotiated agreement from Istanbul. However, some Ukrainian officials viewed this as a surrender.
The ongoing war has claimed thousands of lives and displaced millions of people. It also affected relations between Russia and the Western countries. The Russian president defended the attack, stating that it was a response to NATO expansion.
Reflecting on possible missteps, Putin admitted he might have made a move to send troops to Ukraine a bit sooner, acknowledging that Russia’s preparedness could’ve been better. In retrospect, analyzing his tenure, he shared, “We have managed to pull ourselves away from the precipice. I have done everything within my power to ensure Russia’s independence and sovereignty stays intact.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine has gained an edge by introducing a Star Wars-style laser weapon, which Kyiv calls Tryzub, or trident in Ukrainian. Recently, Vadym Sukharevskyi, Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems, stated during a defence summit in Kyiv that the war-torn country has developed a high-tech laser weapon capable of destroying flying objects. Notably, the Tryzub, or trident, is a nod to Ukraine’s national symbol, representing strength, unity, and independence.
“It really works; it really exists. We can state that today Ukraine is, if I’m not mistaken, the fifth country that can say it has a laser weapon,” Kyiv post quoted Sukharevskyi as saying.
What Exactly Is Tryzub?
As there is not much available for Tryzub, but as per several media reports, the weapon is callable for destroying any flying object at distances of more than two kilometres. Col Vadym Sukharevskyi didn’t provide more details about Tryzub, stating that it is real and currently operational. However, he doesn’t revealed about the place or region it is deployed.
According to some defence experts, the weapon could have taken inspiration from United Kingdom’s DragonFire, which is a Laser Directed Energy Weapon (LDEW) that uses an powerful light beam to destroy its target. The weapon is capable of strike at a speed of light.
