Blues have completed more summer transfer window business
Birmingham City have completed more summer transfer window business.
Dion Sanderson has departed Blues to join Championship rivals Derby County on loan.
The club’s former captain is no longer part of Chris Davies’ plans and hadn’t featured in a first team fixture during pre-season before leaving for the Rams, where he is reunited with John Eustace, who was in charge of Blackburn Rovers when Sanderson joined them on loan last season.
Blues confirmed Sanderson’s exit in a statement, which read: “Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson has joined Derby County on loan for the season, subject to clearance.
“The 25-year-old makes the switch across the midlands to link up with former Blues boss, John Eustace for the fourth time, having worked together at both QPR and Blackburn Rovers.
“Sanderson featured on seven occasions under current Manager Chris Davies and, after going in search of First Team football, appeared a further 12 times for Rovers during the second half of the 2024/25 Championship season.
“His most recent appearance in a Blues shirt came in December during a 2-1 Vertu Trophy win over Exeter City.
“Sanderson will not be eligible to face Blues when the two teams meet on 26 December and 21 March.
“Everyone at Birmingham City wishes Dion all the best during his time at Pride Park.”
