With the Love Island final just one day away, tensions hit boiling point in the villa tonight as a dramatic twist saw former Islanders return to decide the fate of the remaining couples, ultimately ending the journey for Meg and Dejon.

The five couples – Shakira and Harry, Toni and Cach, Yasmin and Jamie, Angel and Ty, and Meg and Dejon – were left stunned when host Maya Jama made a surprise appearance in the villa.

“I’ve got some very important news. Can you all come and join me on the lawn?” she told the Islanders, hinting at the drama to come.

“As you know, last night Megan and Conor were dumped as a result of receiving the least amount of votes for most compatible couple,” Maya continued, before dropping a bombshell: “I’m now going to reveal the two other couples who received the fewest votes and are at risk of being dumped from the island.”

She added: “Today, one more couple will be dumped from the Love Island Villa. And that decision will be made by some very familiar faces.”

In a twist nobody saw coming, all of the previously dumped Islanders returned and took their seats around the fire pit as they were tasked with choosing who to send home between the two couples deemed least compatible by the public vote, Meg and Dejon, and Angel and Ty.

After intense consideration and some sharp comments from the returned Islanders- that left the Islanders visibly uncomfortable – the final vote came in, with Meg and Dejon receiving 10 votes and Angel and Ty receiving 8.

It was an extremely dramatic dumping, as Maya didn’t hold back questioning Dejon’s sincerity after his rocky journey in the villa. Dejon defended himself, saying: “I wasn’t perfect,” and that him and Meg will prove people wrong on the outside.

Despite being in a couple from the start, and becoming officially boyfriend and girlfriend, Meg and Dejon’s relationship has faced scrutiny from fellow islanders and fans online throughout the series. Viewers have long questioned Dejon’s intentions accusing him of “game playing.”

After tonight’s episode fans took to social media to discuss the outcome, with some viewers claiming it was the best outcome as Meg and Dejon’s relationship “felt so forced.”

One fan expressed: “Finally, Meg and Dejon are gone. They did not deserve the final,” as another simply stated: “Finally they fakes are out.”

A third fan penned: “Finally, their relationship felt so forced with no connection at all.” While a forth fan commented: “WOOOOHOOO finally, long time coming.”

Meg and Dejon’s dumping means that Angel and Ty, Toni and Cach, Harry and Shakira, and Jamie and Yas will be heading into the Love Island final, which will air on ITV2 tomorrow at 9pm.
