Two men arrested on suspicion of murdering teenager who died after Bury car park stabbing

The 19-year-old suffered multiple stab wounds in a ‘targeted attack’

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was knifed to death in Bury.

The 19-year-old suffered multiple stab wounds in the car park of the Powerleague football complex in Bury, next to Bury College off Market Street, at around 9pm last night (Friday, August 1).

He later died of his injuries. Detectives have described it as a ‘targeted attack.’

Specialist forensic officers were today seen combing the Powerleague complex.

Another police scene was in place on Valley Mill Lane, where residents reported hearing screams, around half a mile away.

A forensic tent was put up on the cul-de-sac near to the Roch Valley Greenway. The scenes are understood to be linked.

In an update this evening (Saturday), GMP confirmed two arrests had now been made.

Two 19-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of murder, a force spokesman said.

They are currently in custody for questioning and the investigation continues, he added.

Earlier, Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends after this tragic and upsetting incident – our specially trained officers are supporting them at this difficult time.

“This incident will have shocked the community and distressed anyone who witnessed it, but we believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat.

“We have several scenes in place with the investigation ongoing in order to identify and apprehend the offenders responsible.

“There will be officers in the area today and in the coming days as we are determined to bring the family the answers they deserve.”

They urged anyone with information that could help detectives to contact them by ringing 101 and quoting incident number log 3354 of 01/08/25.
