HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — The Texas Department of Transportation says Harris County drivers may see lower toll rates along Highway 288 as soon as next month.
ABC13 reported last year about drivers wanting to see lower rates after the state took over operation of the toll lanes from a private operator.
At the time, some drivers told ABC13 they would sometimes pay around $15 a trip.

Now that the State of Texas has taken over the operation of the 288 Expressway, will those tolls ever drop?
Now, TxDOT says average daily toll rates will be reduced by nearly half on the Harris County portion of SH-288.
However, rates fluctuate and the agency says they may be adjusted every half hour to keep traffic flowing in the managed lanes.
According to TxDOT, the new rates could start as early as Sept. 1.
