After weeks of talks, Manchester United are closing in on a move for Bryan Mbeumo, with the forward a step closer to arriving at Old Trafford.

The Brentford talisman was identified as a key target at the start of the transfer window, but United had seen two bids turned down by the Bees. But it was third time lucky for the club.

The two clubs reached an agreement over the transfer on Friday with United paying a fee of up to £70 million. It is understood that the price will be an initial £65 million with a further £5 million in add-ons.

It has been reported that the player will undergo a medical this weekend before completing the formalities of the transfer. After that is done, an official announcement will be made.

As reported earlier in the week, United were working on a deal to sign Mbeumo in time for him to be able to feature in the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.

United are in pre-season action for the first time later today (Saturday), but the game will come too soon for Mbeumo to be able to feature. However, United will be hopeful that a deal is done in time for the player to travel with the rest of the squad out to Chicago on Tuesday.

If that is the case, then he could potentially make his debut for United in their opening game of the Premier League Summer Series.

United take on West Ham United at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday, 27 July with kick-off at midnight UK time. Barring any injuries, or issues with the formalities of the transfer, that match should be the first time that United fans get the chance to see Mbeumo in action for the club.

Fellow new signing Matheus Cunha will have a chance to make an impression before. Having completed his move earlier in the summer, the Brazilian will be able to feature in today’s friendly against Leeds United which kicks off at 2pm at Friends Arena in Sweden.
