Armed suspect shot and killed at end of lengthy chase on Galveston Island, constable deputies say

GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) — A chase suspect was shot and killed by law enforcement after he allegedly opened fire along the Gulf Freeway on Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

The Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office stated that on Wednesday at about 10 a.m., constable deputies were involved in a multi-agency pursuit that started on the Gulf Freeway near Scarsdale Blvd. in southeast Houston.

Investigators said when constable deputies spotted the suspected vehicle, the driver fired multiple shots at Pct. 8 constable deputies.

The chase continued for more than 30 minutes, ending on Broadway near 51st Street in Galveston Island, according to authorities.

According to the constable’s office, the armed driver got out of the vehicle and was shot and killed by law enforcement.

The Galveston Police Department said the incident is causing Broadway to be entirely closed in both directions from 51st to 56th for several hours.

Police advise drivers to utilize Seawall Boulevard or Harborside to cross the island.
