Photos show aerobridge damage as Qantas passengers hit with 21-hour delay

An aerobridge has ripped into the engine of a Qantas A380 superjumbo at Sydney Airport.

Hundreds of passengers were already on board the airbus this morning ready to head to Johannesburg, when the aerobridge crashed into the plane and pierced the engine.

The passengers will be put on a flight tomorrow morning after a 21-hour delay.

The airline has offered passengers accommodation for the night if they need it.

Nobody was injured but passengers had to get off the plane.

Qantas said it is investigating and apologised to customers inconvenienced by the accident.

“The aircraft will be inspected by engineers in Sydney and repaired before returning to service,” the airline said.

It is the second mishap with a Qantas aerobridge in recent months.

The incident is still the subject of an investigation.
