One person is dead and another is in hospital following a shooting in downtown Hamilton late Friday afternoon.

Hamilton Police said the fatal shooting occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. in the area of King St. between James and MacNab Sts. and near Jackson Square Mall.

Police have closed roads and set up traffic diversions as the investigation is in its early stages. Pedestrian and vehicle access in the surrounding area is being restricted as well.
Investigators are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. and may have witnessed anything, or have information relevant to the case, to come forward.
Cops said surveillance footage, dash camera video, and eyewitness accounts could play a vital role in helping the investigation.
