Cristiano Ronaldo Reacts to Diogo Jota’s Death

Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted to the death of his Portugal teammate Diogo Jota, saying it “doesn’t make sense”.

Jota, 28, died in a car accident in Spain on July 3 along with his younger brother, André Silva, also a professional footballer for a lower-league Portuguese club.

Local fire officials in Zamora, Spain, said they died when their car caught fire after it left the road.

“It doesn’t make sense,” Ronaldo posted to X, originally in Portuguese.

“Just now we were together in the National Team, just now you had gotten married.

“To your family, your wife, and your children, I send my condolences and wish them all the strength in the world. I know you will always be with them.

“Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you.”

Ronaldo had captained the national Portuguese soccer team, in which fellow attacker Jota was a regular fixture.

Jota had played in the English Premier League for Liverpool FC since 2020, a club with which he had won the title, the FA Cup, and the League Cup during his career there.
