A man was arrested after a number of suspected guns were discovered in Rochdale.

The drama unfolded on Bentley Street, Rochdale, yesterday morning (Thursday, May 29).

Officers carrying out a search of a property, in the Shawclough area of the town, found ‘several suspected firearms’ inside, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The items, said to number five or six, were seized for further analysis.

However, those assessed so far have ‘been deemed to be non-viable’ a force spokesman.

A 52-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

“Enquiries are ongoing” the GMP spokesman added.

An eyewitness said police arrived at the scene at around 10am with the man being led out around 15 minutes later.

“He was taken away in a van” they said.

A photo showed around half a dozen officers in white forensic suits outside the property.

“There were six officers to start with, then 11 in total, after he was removed from the property.
