The ‘Jeffrey Deitch Art Gallery’ is currently home to ‘Carnival,’ a subversive, multi-sensory group exhibition curated by cult artist Joe Coleman. Running from May 3 to June 28 at the gallery’s 18 Wooster Street location, the show transforms the space into an immersive fever dream of sacred grotesquery and rebellious fantasy.
Featuring over 60 artists, the exhibition channels the spirit of the carnival not as escapist entertainment, but as a liminal space where art confronts the absurd and divine. Theatrical highlights include Raúl de Nieves’s glowing carousel, Walton Ford’s ode to chaos titled ‘Clara al Carnevale,’ and Nadia Lee Cohen’s brutalist, cinematic new work made of silicone, glass, and metal.
Coleman’s curatorial vision also includes sideshow relics, live burlesque, and immersive performances, turning Jeffrey Deitch’s gallery into more than a venue — it becomes a dynamic stage for the uncanny.
