CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Early voting is underway in the 2024 General Election. The first ballots were cast at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Registered voters in all 55 counties can vote early.
“You can look at it as Election Day because it truly is,” said Mason County Clerk Diana Cromley in an interview with MetroNews Affiliate WMOV Radio. “Anyone registered to vote in the state of West Virginia is eligible, they don’t have to have an excuse.”
Most counties conduct early voting in their county courthouses. Some larger counties with a more expanded population have satellite voting locations for the convenience of county residents.
There are also absentee ballots available for anyone who will be out of town on election day and unable to get to the polls.
“To request an absentee ballot you have to fill out an application and you have to do that by October 30th, then we have 24 hours to mail that back to you,” Cromley explained.
The completed ballot must be postmarked by Election Day, but can be received in the county clerk’s office right up until the day of the election canvas.
There is also a need for additional poll workers headed into Election Day. Several counties still need help and they need it from all sides of the political spectrum to help run the elections with bipartisan poll workers. You can apply at your local county clerk’s office. The commitment involves a few hours of training ahead of Election Day and a long day on election day for which you will be paid.
Election Day is November 5th. Early voting will run daily, except for Sunday, through November 2nd.
