Islamabad United continued their imperious march at the top of the PSL 2025 standings with another impressive win over Multan Sultans, but this time away from home comforts.
Chasing 169 under the lights at the Multan Cricket Stadium, United made light work of the target, reaching it in just 17.1 overs. USA’s wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous finally introduced himself to the PSL audience with an impressive unbeaten 80 off 45 deliveries. His knock, laced with six fours and five towering sixes, anchored the chase after a brisk start provided by Sahibzada Farhan and Colin Munro.
Multan, choosing to bat first, looked in control at various points in their innings. Usman Khan was in fluent touch, smashing 61 from 40 balls, while skipper Mohammad Rizwan dropped anchor with a more subdued 36 off 37. Their 65-run partnership set the platform, but United’s bowlers kept striking at the right moments to prevent Multan from accelerating at the death. Mohammad Nawaz and Jason Holder took a wicket each, while Shadab Khan’s spell was tidy despite conceding a few late runs.
In reply, Islamabad’s top order ensured there were no hiccups. Sahibzada Farhan once again gave the innings a rapid start before falling for 22, and Munro followed with a typically aggressive 45. By the time Nawaz fell in the 17th over, United were on the brink of victory, which came comfortably thanks to Gous’ authoritative finish.
Latest PSL 2025 Standings:
Position | Team | Matches (M) | Wins (W) | Losses (L) | No Result (N/R) | Points (PT) | Net Run Rate (NRR) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Islamabad United | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 2.342 |
2 | Karachi Kings | 5 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 6 | -0.215 |
3 | Lahore Qalandars | 4 | 2 | 2 | 0 | 4 | 1.095 |
4 | Peshawar Zalmi | 4 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 2 | -0.844 |
5 | Quetta Gladiators | 3 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 2 | -0.917 |
6 | Multan Sultans | 5 | 1 | 4 | 0 | 2 | -1.764 |
The result keeps Islamabad United well ahead of everyone else in the 2025 PSL standings and all but mathematically seals their place in the next phase already. Multan Sultans, on the other hand, are in trouble once more. Their solitary win right now seems to be an anomaly more than a norm, and with tougher tests to come, this might be the year they miss the playoffs altogether.
The PSL action will continue tomorrow with Lahore Qalandars taking on Peshawar Zalmi.
