In a sweeping diplomatic crackdown following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, India on Wednesday announced the scrapping of the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, alongside a series of other retaliatory measures.
India has also shut the Attari check post for all cross-border movement and suspended SAARC visa travel privileges for Pakistani nationals. All Pakistani citizens currently in India under the SAARC framework have been given 48 hours to leave the country.
Further tightening diplomatic channels, India expelled all Pakistani military advisors, including those from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. In a reciprocal move, five Indian officials—excluding India’s military advisors—have been withdrawn from the High Commission in Islamabad. The overall diplomatic strength at the Indian High Commission has now been reduced to 30 personnel.
