Two members of a family were killed and four others were injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in the Farsh Bazar area of Delhi’s Shahdara in the early hours of Friday. According to the police at Farsh Bazar, they received reports of a fire at approximately 5.50 am in Bholanath Nagar, prompting an immediate response from both law enforcement and the Fire Services.
As the fire service responders reached the spot, they found flames emanating from the third and fourth floors of the building, which belongs to Manish Gupta. The firemen quickly doused the flames. During a search of the flat, the bodies of Shilpi Gupta, 42, and 16-year-old Pranav Gupta were found. Preliminary investigations suggest they may have died due to asphyxia after they inhaled smoke, said the police.
Four other family members who were injured in the blaze were taken to GTB Hospital for treatment. The injured were identified as Kailash Gupta, 72, Bhagwati Gupta, 70, Manish Gupta, 45, and Parth Gupta, 19.
The Gupta family operates an electric equipment shop at Bhagirath Palace. Six fire tenders were deployed at the spot, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire, said the police. Authorities said legal action will be taken as appropriate in connection with the fire.
Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
