Homicide in Lowertown reported by Ottawa police

A suspect was in custody Tuesday evening after a homicide in the Lowertown neighbourhood, the Ottawa Police Service reported.

A media release from police said the homicide occurred just after 4:30 p.m. at 20 Heney St., near MacDonald Gardens Park.

Another person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation was continuing, but there was no risk to the public, police added.

Anyone with information, cellphone or other video of the incident was asked to contact Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-8477 or online at crimestoppers.ca.

Neither the suspect nor the victims were immediately identified by police.

This was believed to be the seventh homicide of 2025 in Ottawa.

In chronological order, the previous six included:

  • Jan. 10: Wilson Sabarros, killed in a home on Pondhollow Way in Barrhaven.
  • Feb. 6: Amr Zohair, killed at the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre.
  • Feb. 15: Omar Jonathan Grant, killed in an apartment building on St. Laurent Boulevard.
  • Feb. 19: Robert Vides, killed in an apartment building on Presland Road.
  • March 14: Kole Warren Watanabe, killed on Longfields Drive in Barrhaven.
  • March 29: Paul Scott Landymore, killed on Primrose Avenue East near Chinatown.

Ottawa police have announced arrests and charges in five of the previous six cases, the exception being the death of Landymore on March 29.
