The restaurant said it had been forced to turn down other booking requests
A restaurant has spoken out after being hit by more than 60 cancellations and no-shows for Mother’s Day bookings.
Leek Bar and Grill, in Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands, said it had been forced to turn down booking requests from other customers ahead of Mother’s Day on Sunday (March 30).
Additionally the restaurant said it had turned other potential customers away at the door due to being fully booked.
However in total it said there had been 35 no-shows and 30 cancellations.
In a statement online, the restaurant said special occasions like Mother’s Day were ‘bread and butter’ for small businesses and ‘vital for our survival’.
The statement said: “Today, we were fully booked all day and evening for Mother’s Day—a special occasion we look forward to celebrating with our amazing customers.
“This afternoon, we enjoyed a fantastic atmosphere, enhanced by the beautiful performances of our talented violin player Becky, It was truly a joy to see so many happy faces celebrating together.
“However, despite turning down numerous booking requests online and over the phone, we experienced 35 no-shows and 30 cancellations.
“As a small business, occasions like Mother’s Day are vital for our survival. Running a restaurant in the current climate is already challenging, and situations like these make it even tougher.
“We sincerely apologize to those we had to turn away at the door and those whose booking requests we couldn’t accommodate.
“To those who didn’t honour their reservations, we kindly ask for understanding: special occasions like this are our bread and butter.
“Please remember how much of a difference your support makes to small, local businesses like ours.”
