Investigation underway after ‘remains’ found in Greater Manchester park

It’s not known whether they are human or animal

An investigation is underway after the remains’ were found in a public park. It’s not yet known whether they are human or animal.

Police search teams have been pictured at Werneth Park in Oldham on Friday evening.

It’s understood a full search of the park’s grounds is ongoing after a member of the public raised the alarm at 2.40pm today (Friday, March 28).

The entire park remains closed, with police tape and officers positioned at all of its entrances.

In a statement, GMP said it was an ‘isolated incident’ with no threat or risk to the surrounding community. An investigation, GMP added, was ‘at an early stage’.

The force said: “At around 2.40pm today (Friday 28 March 2025), we were called to reports of a suspicious item being found by a member of the public in Werneth Park on Frederick Street in Oldham.

“Officers remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing. This is an isolated incident and there is no threat or risk to the local community.

No further details have been revealed.

GMP’s Tactical Aid Unit was pictured at the scene, with teams of officers shown inside the park during what is thought to be a search operation.
