West Midlands Police has said one of its cars was responding to reports of a man with a knife in Acocks Green when the vehicle struck a pedestrian in his 40s
A man has died after being hit by a police car in Birmingham.
The incident took place in Yardley Road in Acocks Green near the junction with Florence Road, shortly before 7pm on Wednesday (March 19).
Emergency services, including ambulance and police crews, rushed to the scene.
The man, a pedestrian in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police has confirmed one of its marked police cars was responding to a 999 call at the time.
It said its officers were attending reports of a man carrying a knife in Warwick Road in Acocks Green, around a mile from the collision site.
Police said the family of the man who died in the collision are being supported. Both police officers involved in the crash were not injured.
And the police force is liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as is standard in these situations.
Yardley Road remains closed in both directions from Oxford Road to The Avenue.
National Express West Midlands is diverting its 11A and 11C bus services via Stockfield Road and Warwick Road.

In a full statement, a spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “A man has sadly died after a collision involving a police car and a pedestrian in Birmingham tonight.
“It happened on Yardley Road, near the junction with Florence Road in Acocks Green, just before 7pm.
“The pedestrian, a man aged 40, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The marked police vehicle was responding to a 999 call relating to a report of a man carrying knives on Warwick Road in Acocks Green at the time of the collision.
“The family of the man who died is being supported, and we are liaising with the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
“The two officers in the vehicle were not hurt.
“Anyone with information, including dashcam or other footage, has been asked to get in touch with us on 101 or Live Chat, quoting log 4726 of 19 March.
“Other officers attended the report of the man with the knives, but there was no sign of any disorder on arrival.”
