Brendan Rodgers has put more trust in the youngster who has netted five goals and six assists in 28 appearances to date
Celtic winger Yang believes he has improved his game in Glasgow – but he still has plenty more to learn.
The wide man – who faces major competition for action from the likes of Nicolas Kuhn, Jota and Daizen Maeda – has been picking up regular minutes under Brendan Rodgers and was put on in Sunday’s derby defeat to Rangers at Parkhead.
He also experienced Champions League football this term which included outings at Aston Villa and in both legs of the knockout tie with Bundesliga big hitters Bayern Munich.
The 22-year-old has earned a recall to the South Korea national team after showing visible improvements under Rodgers. He reckons he has become a mentally stronger player with one of his key traits in attacking dribbling scenarios.
He knows his game is far from perfect and still needs more work but he’s started to build on that. He’s also been putting in the graft to bulk up physically to compete in Scotland’s top flight.
Speaking to Korea JoongAng Daily, he said: “I think my strength is more offensive dribbling skills. I think I’ve become a mentally stronger player.
“I lacked a lot of factors, but I feel like I complemented those, although it is still not enough.
“I did a lot of core muscle training and built muscles to compete in a physically challenging league.”
He added: “I was very worried a couple of months ago, but manager Hong coming to see me [in Scotland] made me think that he does watch me, which motivated me to work hard.”
Yang has scored five goals and provided six assists across 28 games in all competitions to date.
He netted a double and set up another in a recent 5-2 win over St Mirren in Paisley.
Speaking after that win over the Buddies earlier in the month, Rodgers explained: “It’s a brilliant three points for us. I think our attacking play was really strong. We were so good on a difficult surface, the players were technically very strong.
“I think it’s one of my favourite results of the season coming to St Mirren who have had some really good performances against other teams.
“Yang’s girlfriend is here at the moment so he’s in a great feeling. I said to her interpreter to try and make sure she stays!
“He’s a young player, he’s growing and developing which is why it’s about more than just performances and results, it’s about the development of young players.”
South Korea face a home double-header in this latest international break.
First up is Oman on Thursday before they entertain Jordan next Tuesday.
