The majority of Sky TV and broadband customers will see a “hefty” change in their price this year
Millions of Sky customers have been hit with a price hike on TV and broadband services. Higher prices will apply to customers’ bills from April 1, 2025, with the TV giant allowed to introduce price changes even mid-contract.
The increase depends on which services the customer uses – but the average nationwide is a jump of 6.2 per cent. Sky is putting the price whack down to product investment and increased supplier costs.
The company insists they have adhered to “fair and transparent” pricing over the past few years, but some customers aren’t having it. Taking to X, one complained: “Renewed my contract with Sky late last year.
“A few months later – £10 a month being added to my bill. @SkyHelpTeam – what is this all about? What’s the point of me agreeing a deal if you’re going to hike the prices mid-contract?
A second raged: “It’s absolutely outrageous that Sky are still allowed to apply mid-contract price increases. They’re increasing my bill by a tenner a month even though my contract doesn’t end for another year.”
A third agreed, writing: “Holy s*** – Sky Signature package is going up by £7 a month! You expect a quid etc but that’s hefty!”
However, other nifty punters have managed to turn the change into a discount on their Sky bill by taking one easy step.
Taking to Facebook, one individual wrote: “Letter received from Sky this morning saying my internet price was increasing by £3. The service isn’t the best anyway and wasn’t paying £34.50 a month just for internet.
“Rang Sky, they have added a discount onto my account to counter the price increase and will actually be paying less than what I currently do.”
Another did the same, writing: “I got my Sky package down from £177 to £160, not much but it helps.”
Sky’s price adjustments are not based on inflation, which means the amount your bill will increase depends on the Sky products you have and any additional services you subscribe to.
If you currently pay £39 a month for Sky TV, Netflix and Full Fibre 150 broadband then your bill will increase by £2.42.
From April you will pay £41.42 a month.
Customers who pay £35 per month for Sky’s Essential TV and Full Fibre 150 will see their bill rise to £37.17 a month.
This is an increase of £2.17 a month, or £26.04 a year.
Elsewhere, those who are subscribed to Sky’s Essential TV and Full Fibre Gigafast Broadband at £51 a month will see their bill rise to £54.16 a month. This is a cost increase of £3.16, or £37.92 a year.
Devesh Raj, Sky’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We understand price changes can be unwelcome, but they are necessary to sustain the quality and reliability of the services you value.
“Our promise remains steadfast – to deliver the best in entertainment, sports, and broadband while ensuring we offer exceptional value.”
Sky confirmed that the cost of its broadband and mobile social tariff will be frozen again. Brits with the provider will be notified in the coming weeks about how their products and services will be affected.
