A gangland gunman has admitted to killing a dad in a brutal Glasgow street attack.
A gunman has admitted murdering a dad-of-five in a street attack.
Malcolm McNee, 62, shot John McGregor, 44, in Glasgow’s Milton on August 26 2021. Court papers state McNee pursued him before firing the shotgun at his body on Westray Street.
Mr McGregor later succumbed to his injuries at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on August 28 2021. McNee pled guilty – through his lawyer John Brannigan – to murder today before he was due to stand trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
He also admitted a separate charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice. McNee is stated to have set fire to a Vauxhall Corsa car involved in the murder at Carbeth Huts in Blanefield, Stirlingshire on August 26 2021.
McNee was joined in the dock by Reece Trainer. His KC Thomas Ross pled guilty on the 25 year-old’s behalf to having a firearm on the day and location of the murder.
Trainer also admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice by boarding a flight to Alicante, Spain, the day after the murder. He is then stated to have flew to “elsewhere or Mexico” on September 9 2021.
Trainer had his not guilty plea to the murder accepted by the Crown. Both will return to court to be sentenced at a later date.
Co-accused Craig Gallagher, 45, remains on trial charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice by being involved in setting fire to the Vauxhall Corsa. The offence is said to have been aggravated by a connection to serious organised crime.
A special defence of alibi has been lodged for that charge with Gallagher claiming that he was at a property in Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire. Gallagher is also accused of assaulting a Chloe Gallagher who was in the driver’s seat of a Mercedes A-Class car at the murder location.
It is claimed that Gallagher, of Torrance, East Dunbartonshire, drove a van at her to her injury and danger of life. Gallagher is further alleged to have repeatedly kicked the Mercedes.
Gallagher is also accused of assaulting a Chloe McCafferty, James Quinn, Andrew Quinn and Ian Donnelly on September 2021 on road between Kirkintilloch and Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire. It is claimed that he shouted and uttered threats of violence at them while in possession of an axe.
Another charge states Gallagher had possession of the axe that day without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority. A final allegation claims Gallagher drove dangerously that day.
The prosecution will be led by Greg Farrell while Iain McSporran KC will defend Gallagher. The trial, before Lord Harrower, continues.
