Amid his hectic schedule, BJP’s Puri MP Sambit Patra managed to make it to Prayagraj over the weekend to take a dip in the Sangam during the ongoing Maha Kumbh. Patra, who was holding fort for the BJP in Manipur — meeting party MLAs and the Governor in Imphal following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh — was simultaneously involved in the BJP’s organisational elections as the co-returning officer. Soon after taking a dip at Triveni Sangam on Sunday, Patra returned to Delhi and flew to Puri on Monday morning. He is set to return to the Capital on Tuesday for the meeting of one nation, one election committee of which he is a member.

Though Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla still has one year to go in office, it is learnt that the Devendra Fadnavis government has already started looking for her successor. And the next Maharashtra DGP, when the time comes, is likely to be from Delhi. The buzz in the bureaucracy is that the Maharashtra government is keen on appointing current NIA DG Sadanand Date to the post. In case Date agrees to join his cadre, he could be replaced in the NIA by current CRPF DG G P Singh, who has recently joined the CAPF as its chief after two years as Assam DGP. Singh had earlier served in the NIA as IG.
