After Vivek Joshi’s appointment as EC, Haryana gets new Chief Secretary | Chandigarh News

Two days after Haryana Chief Secretary Vivek Joshi was appointed Election Commission, the state government on Wednesday late evening appointed a 1990 batch Haryana IAS officer Anurag Rastogi as the new Chief Secretary of the state.

As Chief Secretary, Rastogi will look after general administration, human resources, personnel and training, parliamentary affairs, vigilance department apart from holding the responsibility of secretary in-charge of plan coordination. According to an order issued by the state government, Rastogi will also look after the charge of Additional Chief Secretary (finance and planning) in addition to his present duties.

The state will get a new Chief Secretary after a span of over three months. Earlier, Joshi was appointed as Chief Secretary of the state after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet had approved his repatriation from central deputation to his parent cadre at the request of the state government.

Joshi took over as Haryana Chief Secretary in November 2024 following the retirement of T V S N Prasad.

Soon after Joshi’s appointment as the Election Commissioner on Monday, the search for Haryana’s new chief secretary had begun. It was believed that the new Chief Secretary would be from the five 1990-batch IAS officers – Sudhir Rajpal, Sumita Misra, Anurag Rastogi, Anand Mohan Sharan, and Raja Sekhar Vundru. It was said that Rastogi is likely to be picked even though he is set to retire on June 30.
