Surya Prakash Khatri (62), a seasoned lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, has been the legal convenor of the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and provides legal expertise to the party. After winning the Assembly election in Timarpur on Saturday, he is now also a party legislator.

“Fixing garbage, water, and sewer issues will be my top three priorities in the constituency. I will work hard and ensure these don’t remain an issue in our area,” says Khatri while speaking to The Indian Express.

He defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Surinder Pal Singh Bitoo by a margin of 1,168 votes. “What goes around comes around,” he says, remembering that he had lost to Bitoo by nearly the same margin in 2008.
