Water tanker driver arrested in Bengaluru in ‘illegal Bangladesh immigrant’ rape-murder case | Bangalore News

A 30-year-old water tanker driver has been arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 28-year-old woman suspected to be an illegal Bangladesh immigrant, the Bengaluru police said on Tuesday.

The police identified the accused as Mudukappa alias Upendra, a resident of Kothanur who hailed from Bagalkot in Karnataka.

According to the police, the body of the woman who worked as a maid in a residential complex in Bengaluru was found near a lake bed in the jurisdiction of the Ramamurthy Nagar police station on January 22.

“Mudukappa knew she was staying in a makeshift tent as he supplied water in the area. He had spoken to her on a couple of occasions while supplying water. On the day of the incident, Mudukappa noticed that she was alone and raped and strangled her. He later threw a stone on her face to disfigure her. He threw the body near a lake bed,” a police officer said.

The police said they arrested Mudukappa after checking the CCTV footage from the location.

Speaking about the victim’s nationality, a police officer said that they were yet to check her documents. The police said they traced the woman’s husband, who initially claimed that she had come from Bangladesh to stay with him. They have some documents, including the woman’s Aadhaar card, but suspect that they were forged, the police added.
