The statue of a galloping horse installed earlier this month at the Chhani Bajwa junction has kicked up a row at the General Board of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC). Congress corporators from Ward 1 demanded that the VMC must shift the statue to another location as the city police had initially opposed the installation stating that the place could turn into an accident black spot. On Wednesday, Congress corporator Jaha Desai told the VMC General Board to shift the statue from the junction. “The initial opinion of the police was against installing the statue but then two weeks back, we learnt that the statue was installed as the police had cleared the same. Not only does it pose risk to motorists as it is a black spot, but the height of the statue is also in violation of the guidelines and should be immediately rectified,” Desai said. Leaders of the ruling-BJP, on the other hand, dismissed the claims saying that the statue was installed “as per the norms” and was part of the beautification of entry points to the city.
Civic Body Mentor
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) will mentor the Anand Municipal Corporation for a year to help the newly formed civic body get accustomed to various functions as per the provisions in place. As part of the first meeting, Vadodara Municipal Commissioner Dilip Rana Thursday visited Anand to interact with the officials of the new civic body, including Anand Municipal Commissioner Milind Bapna. Vadodara Municipal secretary Chintan Desai accompanied Rana. Desai briefed Anand civic body officers about the provisions and protocols to be followed under the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Act such as drafting proposals, conducting General Board meetings and issue of notifications, among others. Anand civic body also unveiled its logo that bears an imprint of the White Revolution as well as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
