Nathan Broadhead’s dad seems to have given a significant clue that his son could be on the verge of sealing a record-breaking transfer to Wrexham.

The Red Dragons, backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are understood to have lodged a £7.5million offer for the Ipswich Town forward last week. Broadhead, who was once part of Wrexham’s youth setup, made the switch to the Tractor Boys from Everton for £1.5m price tag in January 2023.

His pivotal contributions helped Ipswich secure successive promotions from League One and the Championship, although he was limited to only seven starts in the Premier League last season. With his contract at Portman Road drawing to a close, discussions regarding the Welsh international’s transfer to Wrexham were reportedly advancing smoothly to begin with.

Despite this, over the weekend, the deal appeared to hit a snag due to injuries and clubs showing interest in Ipswich’s other forwards. However, Mark Broadhead, Nathan’s father, has reignited excitement among Wrexham supporters by posting a mysterious message on his personal Facebook page.

Accompanied by the caption “12 years later,” it features a photo of a young Nathan donning an Everton kit in 2013 and another capturing his goal celebration for Ipswich last year. The final image, captioned “Now,” shows Nathan donning a Wrexham jersey and kneeling on the Racecourse Ground turf from his academy days.

Although no official confirmation has come from the clubs, supporters are interpreting this as a hint that his return to Wrexham is on the horizon after a screenshot of the post was circulated on X by the Fearless in Devotion fan account.

One fan responded: “That’s all the info we need.” Another commented: “As good as an official announcement, that.” A third added: “Someone may have just let it slip also outside the ground too.” Ipswich supporters are also persuaded, with one saying: “You’ve got yourselves one hell of a player. Good luck this season.”

Broadhead’s record of 23 goals in 83 matches for Ipswich stands out, and his potential move to Wrexham is viewed as a significant acquisition. The Welsh team is gearing up for their first stint in the second division in 43 years following their promotion from League One in April.

Manager Phil Parkinson has been active in the transfer market, bringing in eight new players this summer to bolster the squad. Wales and Sheffield United striker Kieffer Moore is the latest recruit, having signed a three-year deal on Tuesday, with the transfer fee said to be around £2m.

Welcome to Wrexham is back on Disney+ for a fourth season. Fans can watch the series with a £4.99 monthly plan, or get 12 months for the price of 10 by paying for a year upfront.

Wrexham are bracing for a challenging season opener as they head to Southampton, who were relegated last term, this Saturday. Liberato Cacace, another newcomer who joined last month from Italian club Empoli, is eager to make his mark as the new campaign kicks off.

Discussing his decision to sign, he told the BBC: “There was interest in Italy, but for me, I’m a big football fan as well. I watch a lot of football and I’ve always watched English football, from the Premier League to the Championship so I know the level I’m heading into.

“It was always a big dream of mine to play in the UK. Obviously Wrexham having so much publicity in the media as well you could see what the club was like. It’s a very exciting project and I’m also very excited to start the season as well.”

He added: “I’ve already had chats with the players and with the manager and I think I’m settling in pretty well. I’m a professional person as well so I always like to keep fit. I’m going to use every day to make sure that against Southampton I’ll be ready to go.”
