43-yr-old man dies in sleep as fire breaks out at Vadodara flat | Ahmedabad News

Two fire incidents were reported from Sayajipura and Makarpura areas in Vadodara Saturday morning, said police, adding, a man was killed in one of the incidents.

In the first incident, a 43-year-old man was killed after a fire broke out at his fifth-floor apartment, located in Vinayak Society in Sayajipura area of Vadodara, said police.

The deceased was identified as Kirankumar Rana. Officials of Bapod police station are awaiting a detailed FSL report as well as the post-mortem examination report to probe the cause of the fire.

Police said that Rana was presumably asleep when the blaze broke out around 9.30 am in his flat, just minutes after his wife had left for work.
Rana’s charred body was found in the bed, said the police, adding that the walls of the bedroom had been blackened by the flames. The furniture in the room was burnt and the damaged air conditioning unit was found on the floor, said police.

Bapod Police Inspector MR Sangada told The Indian Express that a team of forensic experts collected evidence from the spot and the post-mortem examination was on to ascertain the primary cause of death.

Sangada said, “The body was found in the bed…he was possibly burnt alive while sleeping. His wife had left for work just a few minutes before the fire broke out, possibly because of a short circuit. We are awaiting the FSL as well as the post-mortem reports before proceeding further in the matter.”

As of now, a case of accidental death has been registered at the Bapod police station, said the police.

In another incident, a fire broke out Saturday morning around 9.30 am at the storeroom of the State Reserve Police Force Group 9 at Makarpura in the city, according to the officials. Four fire tenders from GIDC fire station were rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control.

Later, four other fire tenders from other parts of the city were called in for assistance, said officials privy to the matter. Station Fire Officer Nikunj Azad said that the fire broke out due to a short- circuit caused by possible overheating. The fire had reduced the items of the store room to ashes, said the officer. The fire officers faced another challenge with gas cylinders located in the storeroom also needing to be cooled off to prevent further hazard. However, the fire was eventually brought under control.
