The Punjab Higher Education Department has directed the DPI (Colleges) to finalize long-pending promotion cases for more than 300 teachers and officers across the province. The promotions apply to teachers in the college general cadre, commerce, and library services, and will elevate eligible staff to grade 19 and grade 20 positions.
Promotions Stalled for Up to a Year
According to departmental sources, the promotion process had been delayed for six to twelve months due to various technical objections and procedural hurdles. The prolonged inaction reportedly caused significant mental stress for many eligible candidates.
Retirements Without Promotion
The delay proved particularly disheartening for several teachers who retired during the wait, missing their final chance for promotion despite years of service. Officials now say the new orders aim to rectify the backlog and provide long-overdue recognition to those still in service.
With fresh instructions issued, DPI Colleges have been tasked with immediately completing the promotion process, ensuring that all pending cases are reviewed and approved without further delay.
