3 workers ‘assaulted’ on theft suspicion, 10 booked | Ahmedabad News

At least 10 people were booked and detained for allegedly assaulting three migrant workers in Vadodara, said police on Tuesday.

According to the police, the incident took place in Padra taluka of the district on Monday night during a garba event in Santram Bhagor area when the accused, on the suspicion of theft, thrashed the victims.

Police said that the three workers had stopped by to watch a garba performance, when, suspecting them to be thieves, the local residents started questioning them. The victims, who belong to Uttar Pradesh and didn’t know Gujarati, sustained bruises on their face and legs until they were rescued by police.

Vadodara district superintendent of police Rohan Anand told The Indian Express: “The local residents attacked the migrant workers while they were watching garba as they suspected them to be thieves. We are probing the case. Ten people have been detained and an FIR is underway in the case.”
