3 IISER Pune professors receive Chemical Research Society of India awards | Pune News

Three faculty members, including an adjunct professor, of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, have been awarded by the prestigious Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) for the year 2025 in recognition of their achievements.

Professor Pinaki Talukdar was awarded the C N R Rao National Prize, Prof K N Ganesh was presented with the CRSI Gold Medal, and Professor Nirmalya Ballav the CRSI Bronze Medal.

Ganesh is the founder-director of IISER, Pune, and an adjunct faculty member presently at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bengaluru.

The awards were presented during the 35th CRSI National Symposium in Chemistry held at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar on July 4.

Prof Talukdar’s research group focuses on designing functional molecules for diverse applications in Chemistry and Biology, and Prof. Ballav’s research group works in the area of interfacial materials chemistry, aiming to develop novel materials for various applications.

Prof Ganesh’s research focuses on the therapeutic and diagnostic applications of oligonucleotide analogues, particularly Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNA).

The prestigious honour reflects Prof Ganesh’s high eminence and outstanding lifetime contribution to chemistry research, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

IISER, Pune, is an autonomous teaching and research institute established in 2006 by the Ministry of Education to integrate high-quality research with undergraduate education. It offers academic programmes at the undergraduate, post-graduate and PhD levels.

IISER, Pune, was ranked 42nd in the overall category, and 29th in the Research Institutions category of the 2024 India rankings by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
