The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Saturday arrested three advocates practising at the sessions court for allegedly forging appointment letters from the Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) and obtaining “proceeds of crime” to the tune of Rs 3.44 crore since 2022. A driver of one of these advocates was also arrested.
On the basis of a complaint from one of the victims, the Crime Branch investigated six such cases where Jaldeep Bharat Tailor, Jitendrakumar Gandalal Prajapati, Ankit Tribhovan Pandya and driver Hitesh Mahesh Sen issued forged appointment orders to posts in the Government of Gujarat in lieu of a hefty sum of money, said police.
These appointment orders were for the posts of Deputy Collector Class-I, Director of Urban Development and Urban Housing Department Class-I, Deputy Collector (Daskroi) Class-I and Deputy Collector Class-I, police said. Various other supporting documents including government notifications were forged, they added.
The accused are alleged to have earned Rs 3.44 crore from these victims between October 12, 2022 and the filing of the FIR earlier this month under section 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318(4) (cheating), 336(3) (forgery), 337 (forgery of document or electronic record), 338 (forgery of document of authority), 340(2) (use of forged document as genuine), 61 (criminal conspiracy), 204 (impersonation of a public servant) and 3(5) (criminal act by several persons with common intentions) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
All four have been arrested and the Crime Branch has received their remand till October 7, said Police Inspector JH Sindhav.
