2 from Haryana, Punjab held over pending cases | Chandigarh News

Sahil Verma, a resident of Pehowa town of Haryana’s Kurukshetra, was arrested soon after landing in Amritsar on Saturday night in connection with a harassment complaint lodged by a minor girl in 2022. He was among the 116 illegal immigrants deported by the US in the second batch.

Kurukshetra SP Varun Singla said the girl had alleged in her complaint that Verma blocked her way and threatened to kill her. Verma is also accused of harassing her. To evade arrest, Verma allegedly fled the country after paying `38 lakh to travel agents. He lived in Italy for nearly two years and then went to the US via a ‘dunki route’, said police.

The Ludhiana Police on Sunday arrested 26-old-year Gurwinder Singh from the second batch of deportees over pending non-bailable warrants against him in a 2021 snatching case.

Gurwinder,  a resident of Sasrali Colony in Meharban, was detained Sunday morning from his home. A graduate, Gurwinder — the son of a Punjab Police officer — was booked in two FIRs for alleged snatching and theft, said the police.
