1 man shot by police in North York, SIU investigating

The province’s police watchdog is investigating after one man was shot by police in North York Sunday afternoon.

Officers were called to a plaza in the Humber Summit neighbourhood, near Islington Avenue and Satterly Road, just after 3:00 p.m.

Police say four suspects were taken into custody. One male suspect was allegedly shot during an interaction with police and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Toronto Police Service says the province’s Special investigations Unit (SIU) has been called to investigate.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of police, among other officials, that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
